West Hempstead is a hamlet located in Nassau County, New York. The area is known for its scenic landscapes.

The establishment of schools in Camillus goes back almost to the original settling and naming of the Town in the 1790s. By 1808, the village had its first log schoolhouse, which was replaced by a frame building in 1813 and a brick building in 1829. Throughout the remainder of the 19th century, small schools were located in hamlets and neighborhoods across the Town of Camillus.

As population grew in the 20th century, so did the need for larger, more centrally located school buildings such as Warners High School, Warner Elementary School, Fairmount Elementary School, and Camillus High School. In 1952, the West Genesee Central School District was created. As of the year 2020, this Syracuse, NY suburban district comprises four elementary schools, grades Kindergarten through 5 (East Hill, Onondaga Road, Split Rock, and Stonehedge); two middle schools, grades 6 through 8 (Camillus Middle and West Genesee Middle); and one high school, grades 9 through 12 (West Genesee Senior High) with an approximate student population of 4500.  As of 2024, the two middle schools have changed their names and the grade levels they serve.  West Genesee Intermediate School serves grades 5 and 6.  Camillus Middle School serves grades 7 and 8.  The four elementary schools (East Hill, Onondaga Road, Split Rock, and Stonehedge) serve grades K through 4.

Emily Sibley Watson’s son James Sibley Watson, Jr. was an important modernist publisher and amateur filmmaker in the 1920s and 1930s.  This scrapbook, compiled by Emily Sibley Watson, documents her son’s filmmaking career.

Emily Sibley Watson (1855-1945) was instrumental in the founding of the Memorial Art Gallery. Her son and grandchildren were also deeply involved in the support of the Gallery.

Watervilet is located in Albany County, New York, and is north of the city of Albany. Because Watervilet was located along the Erie Canal, which made it a lucrative business area.

The Watertown flower library holds a collection of yearbooks from Watertown High School. The Annual is the Watertown High School Yearbook.

Directories are of historic importance in large part because of the variety of information contained within a single volume. Organized listings of names and addresses for any time period tend to be the most popular and are immensely helpful to piece together a community or family’s history.

Oriskany has been home to the Waterbury Mill, which manufactures felts specifically for papermaking, since the 19th century. Henry Waterbury purchased the mill, which was formerly a woolen mill, in 1878. The firm’s original name was H. Waterbury and Sons Company. The company prospered and doubled in size in less than 10 years. Its success is in part to the Mill’s location on the Erie Canal and near the New York Central Railway. The Waterbury Felt Company, as it was later known, was a major employer in the Oriskany region. The Company developed a process to create an endless belt of woven felt which was used in papermaking to dry the paper stock. It closed in 2013.
