Historical Context

Musician and producer, Murray Bernthal founded the Famous Artist Broadway Theater Series in Syracuse during the late 1940's.  In 1949, the performances expanded to the Fayetteville area, which became a highly desired location for summer stage performances.  The performances took place at the former Fayetteville High School, now Wellwood Middle School.  Many famous artists performed in Fayetteville between 1949-1964, including Veronica Lake, Eva Gabor, Bela Lugosi and Charlton Heston.

This collection contains playbills from the Famous Artists Country Playhouse at Fayetteville, Famous Artists Country Playhouse at East Rochester, and The Town and Country Theatre, and photographs from the Brigadoon play, and miscellaneous items.
