Sauquoit Valley Central School District
Sauquoit Valley Central School District
About
The first school in Sauquoit was started in 1827. Later in 1844, East Sauquoit opened a school, named the Sauquoit Academy and received the charter to become a junior high school in 1859. Meanwhile, the Clayville Union School was organized in 1870. Between 1880 and 1890, the Sauquoit Academy became the Sauquoit Union School and the Clayville Union School became the Clayville High School. In 1903, the Sauquoit Union School and the grade school, District 5 at West Sauquoit, agreed to consolidate. The new school building was opened in January of 1906 and the Board of Regents granted the new school the charter of a senior high school. In 1925, another building was built for grades 1 to 5 and then another building was built to accommodate the increase in students and housed grades 1 to 3.
In 1930, the Sauquoit Union High School, Clayville High School, and Cassville Allen, Tophet and Doolittle Districts 5 were consolidated to become the Sauquoit Valley Central School. Later on more districts were added to the consolidated school: Miller District No. 5, Litchfield, Paris Hill, Norwich Corners, and in 1955 Frankfort District No. 10 was added. By September of 1932, the Junior-Senior High School building was ready and an addition was completed in 1962. In 1954, the Sauquoit Valley Elementary School was opened and housed students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In 1984, Sauquoit Valley Central School annexed the Chadwicks Union Free School District. A new middle school that held students from grades 6 - 8 was opened in 1990.
Present day, the Sauquoit Valley Central School District serves 980-990 students.
Sauquoit Valley Central School District is a member of the Central New York Library Resources Council.
