About

The Brightwaters Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich tapestry of our village’s history. Founded in 2023 by a group of committed residents who recognized the importance of maintaining a connection to our past, the Society has grown into an essential part of Brightwaters Village, offering a bridge between generations and a reminder of our shared heritage. Our Society was founded with the support and assistance of Brightwaters Village Government. Mayor John Valdini not only granted the Society access to the majority of village records, he also commissioned construction to build an archival space for permanent storage of the first large donation the Society received.

Our mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Brightwaters and its people. We strive to make history accessible to all, through a variety of programs that educate, inspire, and foster an appreciation for the depth and diversity of our village’s past.  We are dedicated to ensuring that the stories of our community are not forgotten.

The Brightwaters Historical Society offers a range of activities and resources for history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Our archives house a vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts that chronicle the village’s evolution. We host regular exhibitions and lectures that bring to life the people, places, and events that have shaped Brightwaters.

We believe that preserving our history is a community effort and welcome the involvement of volunteers, members, and donors. Whether you’re interested in researching, sharing your own stories, or supporting our preservation efforts, there’s a place for you at the Brightwaters Historical Society.

Brightwaters Historical Society is a member of the Long Island Library Resources Council.
