Historical Context

Sharon Turner was the Photography Director/ Youth Program Coordinator from 1978-2018 at the  Flower City Arts Center (Community Darkroom). She has been a photography teacher in numerous community programs including Studio 678 (1999-present), Eyes Front - for women veterans (2019), and in former programs at Corpus Christi School, Jefferson Middle School, Right-on School, Empire State College, School Without Walls, ESOL program at School #38, AME Zion senior center, and others. She has had solo exhibitions at venues including Empire State College- photojournalism, Calvary St. Andrews Church and City Hall Link Gallery - Hamilton St. Group exhibition at Pyramid Gallery in Art As Healing, participation over many years in A Photographer's Path at High Falls Fine Art Gallery, participation in group exhibitions at Community Darkroom, and a dual exhibition with Marianne Pojman at the University of Rochester Art Library - Remembrance in honor of my grandmother and Marianne's father. A resident of the South Wedge, Turner continuously documented the Clarissa Street Reunion for 22 years.
