Jordanville Public Library
About
Originally began as the Union Free School District #5 on June 26, 1899, the library was later moved into the building. Eventually, a new building for the library was built on the original site and was dedicated on August 26, 1908. The library was open three days per week, six hours each day, and was a multipurpose building. A kitchen was added to the back so it could become a community center and it hosted many musical programs, wedding receptions, and other social functions. In 1960 with the advent of a Library System, Trustees elected to join the Mid York Library System. Another change came about in 1976 when the former kitchen was made into a Historical Room for the Town of Warren. Then in 1983, the library was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The library building has remained essentially unchanged since its dedication and the library has survived over the years through the efforts of volunteers who have served as trustees, librarians, and library staff. The community also generously continues to support the library.
Jordanville Public Library is a member of the Central New York Library Resources Council.
