Castleton Public Library

About

Springing from an informal book lending service in a Castleton storefront, the Castleton Public Library was provisionally chartered in 1909 and received its absolute New York State charter in 1912. The library was initially housed inside a small house at First and Green Streets, just off of Castleton’s Main Street. In 1926, when the Village of Castleton purchased a former school building for its offices, the library was given space on half of the first floor of the building, where it continues to provide service today. As a dynamic small-town library, CPL abides by its mission: "Enriching lives, empowering our entire community, encouraging exploration."

Castleton Public Library is a member of the Capital District Library Council.
