Gertrude (Phinney) Conant was born in Brooktondale in 1924. She graduated from Ithaca Senior High School in 1941. She was interested in both photography and history, so began collecting local historical photos, showing the Town of Caroline over the 19th and early 20th centuries.

This collection includes many photographs of town residents, including the Vandemark and Phinney families, mostly identified.
