Maria Kraus-Boelté Letters Collection

The Maria Kraus-Boelté Letters Collection contains 164 letters written by Maria Kraus-Boelté, a pioneer of Fröbel education in the United States, detailing the development of kindergarten education in New York City and in the United States. In addition, the letters mention plans pertaining to Mrs. Kraus-Boelté’s Training School, the Kraus Alumnae Kindergarten Association and other New York and National organizations in which she was very active. The majority of the letters were written to Carrie Coit Meleney from 1896 to 1916. One of the correspondents is a Kraus kindergarten alumnae, Anna Harvey who was a professor of Froebelian Methods at Adelphi, later dean of students.
