Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities
About
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities formed between 2004 and 2007 via consolidations between the Sisters of the Third Order Regular Buffalo (est. 1863), Sisters of the Third Franciscan Order Syracuse (est. 1860), the Sisters of St. Francis of the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin of Hastings-on-Hudson (est. 1893), and the Sisters of Saint Francis of Millvale, Pennsylvania (est. 1871). The Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child (est. 1927) had already merged with the Sisters of the Third Order Regular Buffalo prior to the 2004 consolidations. Individual members of the Sisters of Saint Francis of the Providence of God (Whitehall, Pennsylvania) have joined the Neumann Communities since 2009.
The Neumann Communities continues many of the ministries of the communities that consolidated between 2004 and 2007. Members are engaged in healthcare, social work, and education throughout the United States and in Kenya and Peru. One of the deceased members, Sister Marianne Cope, was declared a saint in 2012.
The archives of each of the communities that consolidated, as well as that of the Neumann Communities, is preserved in Syracuse, New York and at Boston College.
Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities is a member of the Central New York Library Resources Council.
