Seneca County City Directories

Seneca County is located in the Finger Lakes region, bounded on the east by Cayuga Lake and on the west by Seneca Lake.  The primary county seat is Waterloo, moved there from the original county seat of Ovid in 1819.

The indigenous people of Seneca County are the Haudenosaunee nation of the Senecas.  The Sullivan-Clinton Campaign of 1779 halved the population of Senecas in the area and destroyed most of their villages.  

Seneca County is home to Seneca Falls and Waterloo, both notable communities in the history of Women's Suffrage and abolitionism.  The county is known today for its agricultural production, including vineyards, wineries and craft breweries.
