Raymond Delancey Hasbrouck (1871-1926), a U.S. Naval officer, was the son of Solomon Hasbrouck (1833-1906) and Ann Eliza Van Wagenen (1837-1907) of Boise, Idaho (both born at New Paltz). The HHS Archives holds an extensive collection of his papers detailing Captain Hasbrouck’s military service and travels in Asia, South America, and Europe. For more information on his life and papers, see the finding aid on the Historic Huguenot Street website.
Scope of Collection
Captain Hasbrouck’s research on his own family history is represented in three of his journals (nos. 1, 3, and 5), which provide documentation of his extensive compilation of family history data both in Europe and America. Hasbrouck was particularly interested in the European roots of his Huguenot ancestors and visited libraries, archives, and governmental offices in Belgium and Northern France for this purpose. His genealogical notebooks also contain pedigree charts and narrative descriptions of his American ancestors, providing particularly detailed information about his father and other immediate family members. Captain Hasbrouck’s work was cited by Kenneth E. Hasbrouck as a major source for his 1961 genealogy, “The Hasbrouck Family in America, with European Background.” Digitization and presentation of these journals online was funded by the Hasbrouck Family Association.
