In 1980, students and faculty from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music participated in the Winter Olympics held at Lake Placid, performing during the opening and closing ceremonies and at other points throughout the two weeks of the Games.

Scope of Collection

This collection contains photographs of the Crane School of Music’s participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. Included are images of SUNY Potsdam students and faculty performing at the Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies, as well as rehearsals, transportation from SUNY Potsdam to Lake Placid, planning meetings with Olympics officials, and a valve oil test conducted by Crane faculty in the freezer of the IGA supermarket in Potsdam, New York to determine the viability of playing brass instruments in outdoor winter conditions.
